Focus on What Matters:

Dear Sun Valley Citizens, Friends and Neighbors:

We are down to the final push in this campaign for the City Council. There are some who want the voters to forget what really matters in this election.

Focus on What Matters

A few anonymous people, others with personal agendas, and groups who continue to work toward the consolidation of Sun Valley into Ketchum want you to focus on, and would have you believe, their campaign of negative attacks, outright lies and misinformation that borders on defamation. They are doing this again at the last minute so you may not have time to check the public record to understand the level of their misstatements and misrepresentations.

They offer no constructive ideas or vision for our City. Their negativity and personal attacks do not bring good governance or better government.

On the other hand, my record shows I have always focused on the issues that really matter to keep Sun Valley strong and a great place to live and visit. I am proud to stand by my record of public service to the citizens of Sun Valley. My detailed response to the unfounded charges in the first letter is at: nilsribi.wordpress.com for everyone to see.

Here is what I believe really matters to the citizens of Sun Valley and what I have worked to provide as a member of your City Council:

The livability of Sun Valley is what makes our city so special and why we choose to make it our home.

As your Councilman, I will continue to be a leader in the focus of these priorities if re-elected:

  • Keep the City of Sun Valley the best resort community in America in which to live, by providing and maintaining the appropriate infrastructure and level of essential city services to support what citizens and visitors expect;
  • Keep the City of Sun Valley independent and fiscally sound, through careful financial management and support of a strong resort economy; and
  • Keep an absolute commitment to open and transparent government, where government is responsive and accountable to its citizens.

I would appreciate your vote this Tuesday, November 3rd. The polls will be open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm at Sun Valley City Hall.

It is an honor to serve you. Thank you for your support.

Nils

Nils' Response to Spurious Anonymous Letter:

Last week I responded to an anonymous letter mailed to Sun Valley voters which mischaracterized the truth and my service on the City Council for the past four years. I have prepared a specific point by point answer to address the factual errors, and clarify the misrepresentations and distortions in that letter. You can then decide about the vitriolic conclusions the anonymous writer makes about me based on his/her mischaracterizations of the truth.

The five of us running for Sun Valley City Council participated in the Idaho Mountain Express debate on October 7, 2009. It was a good debate with some excellent questions. If you weren't able to attend in person, here is a link to the video of the event. Click on the box below:

To the Voters of Sun Valley:

Dear Sun Valley Voter,

It has been an honor to serve as your Sun Valley City Councilman for the past four years. There is more to accomplish and I am ready to use the experience I have gained to serve you for another term.

When I ran in 2005, my platform stated “We must focus on the City’s financial future.” I honored that commitment by working to ensure our City is sound and able to maintain the level of services you and our visitors expect, regardless of what happens to the economy.

As your Councilman, I will continue to focus on three priority issues if re-elected:

  • Keep the City of Sun Valley the best resort community in America in which to live, by providing and maintaining the appropriate infrastructure and level of essential city services to support what citizens and visitors expect;

  • Keep the City of Sun Valley independent and fiscally sound through careful financial management and support of a strong resort economy; and

  • Keep an absolute commitment to open and transparent government, where government is responsive and accountable to its citizens.

I take my responsibility seriously as your Councilman and have taken on additional assignments to improve our City. My efforts have focused on key issues including:

  • City infrastructure – road and path improvements
  • Hazard mitigation and emergency planning – wildland fire interface, incident management training
  • Comprehensive Plan implementation – open space zoning, water resources, special site protection
  • External contract accountability – Chamber of Commerce, Mountain Rides, Consolidated Dispatch
  • Local Option Tax – rate improvements
  • Transit, tourism and economic development – improve city bus service, economic diversity

I am pleased my efforts and contributions over the past four years have helped make significant progress possible toward priority planning that is proactive rather than reactive, as well as the establishment of clear financial policies and procedures for the City Council.

I remain committed to my pledge to serve the citizens of Sun Valley, free of conflicts or special interests to protect, fully engaged to continue the serious work ahead. I ask for your vote on November 3rd.

 Great thanks,

 Nils Ribi

Nils Announces Candidacy for Second Term on City Council

News Release – for immediate release

Nils Ribi to Run for Re-Election to Sun Valley City Council

Sun Valley, Idaho, August 25, 2009 - Today, Sun Valley Councilman Nils Ribi announced that he has filed his Declaration and Petition of Candidacy for a second term on the Sun Valley City Council.

Councilman Ribi stated “I am very proud of how we have prepared our City to continue to be strong through these challenging economic times. I wish to stay in office to ensure the solutions we have put in place to keep the City fiscally sound are there when the economy recovers.”

Ribi, 54, a twenty-one-year full-time resident of Sun Valley currently serves as President of the City Council. This is his first term on the City Council. He was elected in 2005. Prior to that, Ribi served six years on the Sun Valley Planning and Zoning Commission. He is a longtime community volunteer and is President of Ribi Corporation, a private venture capital company which helps organize start-up technology ventures.

Ribi outlined three priority issues on which he has focused and plans to continue to pursue if re-elected, based on feedback from Sun Valley citizens:

  1. Keep the City of Sun Valley the best resort community in America in which to live, by providing and maintaining the appropriate infrastructure and level of essential city services to support what citizens and visitors expect.

  1. Keep the City of Sun Valley independent and fiscally sound, through careful financial management and a strong local economy.

  1. Keep an absolute commitment to open and transparent government in Sun Valley where government is responsive and accountable.

Ribi pointed out that over the past several years he has been pleased with good progress that has been made in opening up City government to the public; implementation of many action items from the Comprehensive Plan, including the establishment of a true open space zoning district; improvements to the Local Option Tax law; better Council member involvement in priority planning to be proactive rather than reactive; and the establishment of clear policies and procedures for the Council.
